In brief:

Each of the 43 activities into this book is well illustrated with a simple description of the task, some variations to try, some additional; hints and hidden depths; and diagrams. Some are also accompanied by photos but it is a shame that these re of adults doing the task rather than children.

“Based on the principles of pupils' involvement in their own mathematics learning”

This book is based on the principles of pupils' involvement in their own mathematics learning and on the values of autonomy and creativity as well as the benefits of pupil- pupil discussion, Some of the activities are very familiar , some are familiar in other contexts. The book contains some useful description of the use of some of these activities with pupils.

Each of the 43 activities into this book is well illustrated with a simple description of the task, some variations to try, some additional ‘hints and hidden depths’ and diagrams. Some are also accompanied by photos but it is a shame that these re of adults doing the task rather than children. Some activities are more obviously about problem solving strategies, groupwork and discussion. Others have more explicit ‘curriculum content’. There is plenty for pupils and their teachers to explore here, and the book is a valuable addition to a teacher’s resource bank.
