ATM Conference 2013 Revisited

We’re very pleased to have John White to lead this event and to walk us through a couple of his favourite ATM Conference sessions.

John is well-known in Swindon as both a gifted teacher and also formerly the Maths Inspector for the Swindon LA. He is now at Isambard Kingdom School as well as playing a leading role in the National ATM, being a member of the General Council of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics.

Also sharing his conference impressions will be Melios Michael, who is a regular attender of the branch and is a teacher at Nova Hreod. Melios’ enthusiasm for maths is contagious.

Inside Symmetry with Jayne Stansfield: a practical hands-on work shop

We are delighted to welcome Jayne Stansfield from Bath Spa University’s School of Education. Jayne is the Mathematics Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course Leader at BSU and also the Branches Officer for ATM.

In this workshop we will work together on some mathematical ideas which lurk beneath the surface of Escher style tessellations.

This will be based around a talk given at the ATM Conference in April 2012 by Bob Burns.

24 Sep 2012 • 18:00-19:30

Practical Algebra KS2 to KS4

Our first speaker is Mr Joe Murray — a schools Maths inspector for many years. He will be talking on Practical Algebra KS2 to KS4.

This will be a very hands-on session. The racetrack games are in 3 levels [KS2 to KS4]. Some of the things are from ATM’s ‘What Kind of Game is Algebra?’
