Concept CartoonsTM in Mathematics Education
Concept CartoonsTM in Mathematics Education is designed to promote more effective teaching, learning and assessment in mathematics. They use cartoon-style drawings in which different characters offer their views. They are highly motivating for pupils, provide stimulating starting points for learning, and offer invaluable opportunities for discussion and are easy to use in the classroom as a part of normal teaching.
Both the book and CD each have 130 Concept Cartoons covering the main areas of maths. The main target age range is Key Stages 2 and 3. However the level of demand of many of the Concept Cartoons can be adjusted by changing the central information and/or the text in the speech bubbles on the CD. Each Concept Cartoon comes with background text to explain the maths behind the different alternatives and to suggest possible follow up activities. Each Concept Cartoon has a blank speech bubble to encourage learners to add more ideas to the discussion.
The book is A4, black and white, 210 pages and photocopiable.
The writeable CD is full colour with partial animation and full interactivity. The level of demand of many of the Concept Cartoons can be adjusted by changing the central information and/or the text in the speech bubbles.
The Concept Cartoons have been created at Millgate House Education by John Dabell, Brenda Keogh and Stuart Naylor.
