Encourage learners to be actively involved in their mathematics and challenge them to think for themselves. All the activities involve significant mathematical ideas and will help learners both to select the relevant mathematical skills and techniques and also to see the need for developing new skills. Thinking together is essential, because the group itself represents the elements of the problem. The ideas will work with adults as well. More detail...

Thinkers

A collection of activities to provoke mathematical thinking. The ideas are suitable for learners from KS2 to AS/A2 level. The book contains different contexts for exemplifying the general and generalising the particular which are processes at the heart of 'doing mathematics'. These are not 'bolt-on' activities but can be integrated into everyday mathematics lessons. More detail...
