Channel 4 Learning - ClipBank

How the publisher describes it:

“Clipbank is a learning service blending thousands of educational video clips and other learning resources designed specifically to support teachers and students.”

Review by Peter Hall

In brief:

What is there is of a high quality and looks very helpful

“Might be worth talking to other departments to lower the cost”

The mathematical content on this website is freshly available. At first glance it appears to be merely some Maths4Real videos which is a little disappointing since these videos are freely downloadable from teachers.tv but there is more on the website make it a worthy addition to any school’s online resources.

Currently only three maths for real programs have been given the clipbank treatment - so Pythagoras, Calculating interest and percentage changes are all available. Clipbank has taken the Maths4Real programme and split each episode into smaller pieces and written accompanying notes for teachers and worksheets for students. The notes for teachers include a lesson plan giving key objectives, a starter - main activity - and plenary, with worksheets and solutions as well.

I’m not sure how much it would be worth paying for this service, and at present only three videos have been completed - but what is there is of a high quality and looks very helpful. For a school wishing to develop the use of video within their mathematics lessons this is an excellent product and the accompanying teachers notes make it well worth a serious look.

This is part of a range of products covering many different subjects - might be worth talking to other departments to lower the cost...
