Level Up Maths: Planning and assessment pack

How the publisher describes it:

“High interest maths that makes progression easy. With answers to every question in the Pupil Book, these comprehensive teacher resources are full of compelling concepts and useful teaching tools to help you deliver the new KS3 Programme of Study.”

Review by Emma Folman

In brief:

This provides all that is required of a teacher's book.

“A valuable starting point for some successful learning”

This provides all that is required of a teachers’ book. My assessment of it was limited given I don’t have the accompanying textbook. The Framework teacher books, for example have the copy of the students page available to review all the questions in advance.

I was able to trial a fantastic worksheet looking at the reality of BIDMAS. It provided pictorial examples of BIDMAS, certainly in ways that I had never considered by looking at shoals of fish. The students found it useful to model their early answers by drawing images themselves to represent bracketed problems. It was a valuable starting point for some successful learning in our mathematics lesson.

Consolidating learning for less able mathematical students is so vital, I shall be watching for a copy of level up 3-5, to experiment with these series further, but currently I am unable to comment further.
