Forty Problems for the Classroom
How the publisher describes it:
“Teachers of mathematics have a great opportunity... If they challenge the curiosity of students by setting them problems proportionate to their knowledge, and help them to solve their problems with stimulating questions, they may give them a taste for, and some means of, independent thinking.”
Review by Yvonne Scott
In brief:
If you like using a problem solving approach to mathematics then these problems will suit your classroom and teaching style well.
“A wide variety of problems from several areas of mathematics”
The activities in this book could be used as lesson starters or for whole lessons and longer if you wished. Some take more time than others and I would recommend that you try some of them yourself first.
There are a wide variety of problems from several areas of mathematics with suggestions on how to use the problems in the back of the book. Many are a bit ambitious for primary classrooms but not impossible. These problems may be helpful in pushing gifted and talented and are certainly better enrichment than pushing pupils on to the next part of the curriculum. All activities are photocopiable. If you like using a problem solving approach to mathematics then these problems will suit your classroom and teaching style well.
