This material can be used to:
- Construct the polyhedra using ATM MATs or Polydron.
- Develop spatial skills by studying the decomposition and construction of shapes:
- Which polyhedra can be built by gluing others together?
- How many ways can it be done?
- See shapes from different angles and in different ways. The regular octahedron is also a triangular antiprism or a square dipyramid, depending on your point of view.
- Help pupils appreciate the need for clarity and precision in definitions, and hence develop skills in the use of mathematical language. This is easily done by finding similarities and differences between the classes, or devising classifications of your own.
