It's Parabola

It’s ‘Parabola’ - Douglas Butler

Just how many questions can you ask to which the answer is “It’s a parabola!”? Douglas Butler suggests a few. Follow the links and you may be surprised. Alternatively you could pose some other questions that give wider access to the parabola.

What is weight? What is the easiest way to compare the weight of two or more differing objects? Or do they mean mass? investigates.

RISP 01

RISP 01 - Jonny Griffiths

What are RISPs? They are certainly firm favourites according to readers of Mathematics Teaching. Follow the link and see a very useful rich starter, from the RISP creator Jonny Griffiths.

Trigonometry with Year 8: Part 2

Trigonometry with Year 8: Part 2 - Jessica Steer, Maria Antioneta de Vila and James Eaton

In MT214 Steer et al outlined some work they had undertaken introducing Trigonometry to year 8 pupils. The first lesson they had used was introduced at the end of the article. Here is a collection of responses from attendees to conference as well as a conversation between two regular visitors. These two conference elders - David and John, have ‘clocked up’ attendance at eighty – eight conferences in and around England.
