If you already have expertise in teaching mathematics at any key stage then becoming a Chartered Mathematics Teacher will provide an further degree of professionalism in your approach to supporting and developing the confidence of colleagues and the quality of mathematics teaching in your own and other schools.

ATM, working with the Chartered Mathematics Teacher Registration Authority, can support you in your move to Chartered Mathematics Teacher status.

How do I become a CMathsTeacher?

STEP 1 • Join a professional association

The process begins by being a member of ATM*. This, of course, also gives you all the other benefits of joining a professional association.

An applicant for admission to the Register of Chartered Mathematics Teachers must be a member of at least one relevant professional association.

*You can, alternatively, be a member of IMA, MA or NANAMIC.

STEP 2 • Collect your supporting information

Application • basically a mini CV: your details, your qualifications and professional experience.

Competences • outlining your professional activiites as they relate to promoting your own professional development and that of others.

Qualifications • proof of post-secondary qualifications with copies of relevant certificates.

First degree not specifically mathematics?

This is not necessarily a problem:

STEP 2a • Claim exemption

Additional Competence • provide additional statements of relevant experience and competence.
