Keynote Speakers
Opening Session - Peter Lacey
Take your marks! Get set! Go!
I associate Loughborough with sporting excellence and their record in producing good athletes. Should we focus on developing good mathematicians? Are ‘personal bests’ the real measures of achievement? Would a mathematicians' curriculum be more appropriate than a mathematics curriculum?
This opening session drew on personal views and classroom evidence that suggest and exemplify the achievement of ‘personal bests’ in mathematics.
Closing Session - Johnston Anderson
Mathematics Is Not a Spectator Sport - Theory and Practice
Special Mathematical Event - Liz Meenan
‘The Yellow Brick Road’ of Patterns
Using the conference theme ‘mathematics is not a spectator sport’ we used paper shapes made from A-size paper to construct a large pattern frieze or road. The patterns were then brought together to make an eye catching mathematically interesting ‘road’ of patterns to journey along throughout the conference.
