The title Mathematical Activities from Special Classrooms could lead one to think that this publication will only be of interest to teachers in special schools. Nothing could be further from the reality. This book is packed with practical, fun activities that are just as appropriate for children in nursery and reception classes. In fact, many of the ideas were originally used with the youngest children in mainstream schools to help them develop important early concepts of number and measurement.

Every activity is described in detail and linked to a learning outcome. All necessary resources are listed and related activities are given which is great for planning.

These activities have been used successfully in classrooms in both mainstream and special schools. They focus on very early stages of mathematical learning and have been developed around the interest of the children. The use of familiar equipment and much loved toys together with songs and rhymes which children enjoy has been the common factor throughout.

The activities were collected from a number of sources including members of ATM KS1 and 2 Working Group and the staff of Manor School London, NW10.
